The sun-god who was worshipped in many localities in Egypt was called Horus. From very early times he was thought to be a falcon, probably because of its habit of flying high in the air. When he was identified with Ra, the sun-god of Heliopolis, he became a composite god named Ra-Harakhty, but retained his falcon form. It is in that form that the sun-god is represented on his pectoral. Held in each talon are the signs for life and infinity.
I handcut these layers of solid sterling silver to create this design. I cut them by hand using a tiny sawblade (no lasers!), and riveted them together with sterling silver rivets. I set a beautiful red garnet cabochon in the central orb.
This pendant is 3.5cm in length, and is hung on a 45cm sterling silver chain.
