A Sneak Peek into the Jean Burgers Jewellery Studio

Welcome to a special behind-the-scenes look at where the magic of Jean Burgers Jewellery happens – my creative sanctuary nestled in the heart of Emerald, a beautiful town in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, an hour outside of Melbourne. After 18 years of working in makeshift studios, I am beyond proud to finally have a space that is my own – a place where every piece of jewellery I create comes to life.

As you step into my studio, the first thing you’ll notice is the large, wooden bench that wraps around three sides of the room. This is the heart of the studio – where every piece of jewellery is brought into being, from the initial spark of inspiration to the final polish. The bench is designed with space for all my tools, materials, and ongoing projects, each with its own story and purpose. Whether I’m designing a new piece or finishing up a custom order, there’s always something exciting happening on this bench.

The process of creating each piece is a journey in itself, and my studio is where that journey unfolds. Here, I do everything by hand – from sketching and sawing to drilling, riveting, and polishing. Each stage of production is done with care and precision, ensuring that every detail is perfect. The sound of the saw cutting through metal, the tapping of the hammer, and the hum of the polishing wheel are all familiar noises that mark the flow of a day in the studio.

It’s not just about creating beautiful jewellery; it’s about crafting something meaningful. Whether I’m working on a bespoke piece for a client or exploring new designs for the next collection, the process is always hands-on and highly personal. I love being able to experiment with different techniques and materials, always striving to push the boundaries of what’s possible in jewellery design.

Once a piece is finished, the final stage of its journey takes place right here in the studio, where I photograph it under natural light to showcase its beauty. I enjoy capturing the subtle details and textures that make each piece unique, allowing you to see the craftsmanship up close.

This is the bench where every Jean Burgers Jewellery piece is born. It’s where my passion for creating high-quality, handcrafted jewellery comes to life, and I’m so grateful to have a space that supports and nurtures that passion.
