I primarily use solid sterling silver, 9ct and 18ct gold, and ethically sourced gemstones. All metals are hallmarked and responsibly sourced from trusted Australian suppliers.
Absolutely! I love creating custom pieces. To start the process, please visit my contact page for more details. Custom orders typically take 1 - 3 weeks, depending on design complexity, materials, and urgency.
To keep your jewellery looking its best, avoid contact with personal care products, chlorine, saltwater, and excessive heat.
Precious metals may tarnish from skin contact or perspiration. To restore shine, use a high-quality silver polishing cloth. For those hard-to-reach areas, gently clean with a soft-bristled toothbrush and warm, soapy water.
When not in use, store your jewellery in a box or pouch to keep it safe.
If you’re looking to place an order of 5 or more pieces, or are a gallery owner interested in stocking my jewellery, feel free to email me at jean.burgers@gmail.com to discuss wholesale options.
I use a Green Lion piercing saw for all my pieces. It's comfortable and allows me to change blades easily, making the process smoother. You can find this sawframe in my Tools section when it's in stock. I also have a blog post about the Green Lion sawframe, you can find it here.
I use saw blades ranging from 2/0 to 6/0, depending on the design's intricacy and the metal thickness. For thicker materials like 1.5mm sterling silver, I use a 2/0 blade, while more delicate, intricate designs require a 6/0 blade. My preferred brand is Glardon Vallorbe Swiss Made Round Back. I have a blog post where I share my opinion on a range of sawblade brands here.
I work with metal thicknesses ranging from 0.4mm to 1.5mm, depending on the complexity of the design.
I use high-quality Panther (Germany) and Densply (Switzerland) drill bits, typically in sizes ranging from 0.5mm to 1.5mm, depending on the design and rivet size.
While laser cutting is a valid form of manufacturing, it doesn't suit what I'm trying to achieve with my jewellery. I believe the feeling of the piece is just as important as the design itself. The whole process from beginning to end has an effect on the energy of the finished piece. I have a whole blog post dedicated to why I handcraft my work, feel free to check it out!
This is a questions I am asked very often, and I'm happy to share my little secret! I draw my designs onto label paper and adhere it to the metal (sanding the metal first helps with this). Once I’ve hand-cut the design, I simply remove the sticker by peeling it off or soaking it in water.
You can find my favourite Golden Mean Calipers and other essential tools in the Tools section of my online store.
At this time, I am not accepting apprentices. Thank you for your interest!
