What does "Handmade" really mean?

In this day and age of mass production and ever-advancing technology, so many people seem to be striving for a faster way of doing things.

I am often asked why I don't just laser cut my work, "it would be so much faster" " you'd save so much time!".

While laser cutting is a valid form of manufacturing, it doesn't suit what I am trying to achieve with my jewellery. I believe the feeling of the piece is just as important as the design itself. The whole process from beginning to end has an effect on the energy of the finished product.

In general I keep to traditional silversmithing techniques, handcutting and sanding, riveting and polishing. My process allows me to put more love into each individual piece.

The meditative practice of cutting each petal of a Flower of Life brings me so much joy, and I believe that feeling shines though in the finished piece.

There will always be a special place in my heart for the truly handmade!
