This pendant is one of a series of unique works I created depicting Planespheric Astrolabe devices.
Planespheric Astrolabes were historically used by astronomers and navigators to measure the inclined position in the sky of a celestial body, day or night. The word astrolabe means "the one that catches the heavenly bodies".
I handcut this etched copper faceplate using traditional hand sawing techniques and riveted it onto a copper backing with green tinted paua, using sterling silver rivets.
This pendant is 4.5cm in diameter, and is hung on a 45cm sterling silver chain.
Your purchase will come carefully packaged in a black pendant box.
