Handcut Planespheric Astrolabe Pendant - silver and green paua - 3

Regular price $375.00 AUD Sale

Planespheric Astrolabes were historically used by astronomers and navigators to measure the inclined position in the sky of a celestial body, day or night. The word astrolabe means "the one that catches the heavenly bodies".

I handcut these layers of sterling silver to create this design. I cut them by hand using a tiny sawblade (no lasers!). I then riveted the top layer of sterling silver, and the backing layer of sterling silver, around a central layer of green tinted New Zealand paua shell. They are held together with sterling silver rivets.

This pendant is 3cm in diameter, and is hung on a 45cm sterling silver chain.

Your purchase will come carefully packaged in a black pendant box.
