Kahu - New Zealand Hawk talon earrings in white bronze, and hung on sterling silver earrings hooks. White bronze is very similar to sterling silver, but does not tarnish as easily and holds it's shine for longer.
The talons are 3cm in length.
Summer or winter, Kahu, the hawk, can be seen soaring over the countryside in wide circles with a slow steady flight, remaining on the wing for hours without tiring. They fly slowly into the wind, alternately gliding and flapping their wings looking as if they do not have a care in the world.
The hawk appears in Maori mythology in the story of Maui, where we are told that the colour of its plumage is the result of it having been scorched by the fire of Mahuika.
These earrings are part of my Organic Forms series focused on casting natural forms in metal. These are very high quality casts with incredibly fine detail. The claws have been hand polished to a shine to bring out the texture.
Your purchase will come carefully packaged in a gift box complete with wax seal.
