Indra's Net stretches out indefinitely in all directions. A single glittering jewel is hung at every intersection. Since the net itself is infinite in dimension, the jewels are infinite in number. In the polished surface of each jewel there are reflected all the other jewels in the net.
In Buddhist philosophy this image symbolises a cosmos in which there is an infinitely repeated interrelationship among all the members of the cosmos. This relationship is said to be one of mutual intercausality.
I handcut layers of 14ct gold and sterling silver, so that when put together, they form this design of Indra's Net. I cut them by hand using a tiny sawblade, and riveted them together using handcrafted sterling silver rivets. In the centre I set a beautiful rosecut piece of red garnet.
This pendant is 4cm in diameter, and is hung on a 45cm sterling silver chain.
