For the ancient Egyptians, the scarab beetle symbolized creation and rebirth. It was associated with the sun-god, Khepri, who rolled the sun across the sky every evening and emerged anew every morning.
I made this necklace by cutting four layers of sterling silver out by hand with a tiny saw, and riveting them together with sterling silver rivets. I then set a moonstone beneath the Scarab, and a beautiful teardrop shaped lapis lazuli cabochon between the front legs of the scarab. This piece of lapis lazuli I was given on a trip to Egypt, by a local stone carver.
The scarab piece is 5.5cm in length. It is hung on a 45cm sterling silver chain.
