The central motif is of a golden scarab beetle holding the solar disk, inlayed with lapis lazuli, in its front legs. It is flanked by two rearing cobras crowned with the "hedjet" the white crown of Upper Egypt. The lotus & suns on the bottom edge symbolise immortality; the lapis lazuli represents the sky & stars.
I handcut these layers of solid 14ct gold and sterling silver to create this design. I cut them by hand using a tiny sawblade (no lasers!), and riveted them together with sterling silver rivets. I set a beautiful rose cut lapis lazuli cabochon in the central orb.
This pendant is 4cm in length, and is hung on a 45cm sterling silver chain.
